Pumpkin Spice Is Nice

It's no secret: We DiMarcos love our Pumpkin Spice. Lattes, ice cream, cereal-- in fact, our first-ever Seriously Cereal video was for none other than Pumpkin Spice Special K! A well-done Pumpkin Spice is a seasonal treat that can't be beat :D

Yet, despite all this, Pumpkin Spice hasn't made an appearance on the show this autumn... and that simply will not do. So to fix this egregious oversight, today Faith and I will be reviewing the limited edition Pumpkin Spice Cheerios, and bring the spice - and pumpkin! - back to the season ^_^

Now, though we may love pumpkin spice in this family, a bad pumpkin spice flavor might be the greatest insult of all. One such example would be Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes. Now there's a case of too many spices and not enough pumpkin... or any other flavor to balance things out :(

Side note: I really hope Frosted Flakes can find a fitting flavor in the future. I still love the original to this day, and its other variations consistently getting bad to mediocre scores has just been unfortunate D:

Cheerios, in contrast, has also been rather hit or miss. Their blueberry flavor was a definite hit in my book, but the peach cheerios were just underwhelming; and as someone who really doesn't care for peach flavoring in general, it should be telling that even my biggest complaint was that there wasn't enough peach flavor. Even so, Cheerios have undeniably branched out from their classic variation successfully, so I was cautiously optimistic going into this episode, even if Pumpkin Spice is a tricky flavor to get down just right.

In my opinion, the main factor that separates a bad Pumpkin Spice from a great one depends on the first word of the flavor: It's called Pumpkin Spice for a reason. If the pumpkin doesn't come across, there's nothing to balance out the spice, and that leads into a similar pitfall as so many cinnamon cereals fall into. I might like cinnamon, but too much is never a good time, and Pumpkin Spice depends on a seriously precarious balance. The question was... could Cheerios pull it off?

But hey, I could go on about Pumpkin Spice forever, so maaaybe I should stop now before getting carried away ;) We might not be to the holiday season yet, but these upcoming episodes are sure to be a true gift-- especially next episode, which will actually be a Seriously Cereal first!

Eh? No, that's all you're getting-- can't be giving out spoilers willy-nilly here! ;)

Anyway, have a terrific Seriously Saturday, folks; if you have any questions, feel free to sign in and ask me in the comments on this post. Take care, and I'll talk with you again soon ^_^
