Minion Vibes and Honey Clovers

Do any of you remember back in the days of the NES and SNES, when it seemed like every series, movie and book had a video game tie-in? Heck, even I remember that, because it was still going on in the days of the Wii! Some of the games were alright, most were terrible, but they all had one thing in common: The quality of the game didn't matter, as long as they put the brand out there.

And today, that mindset has evolved beyond half-hearted video games, to bring us the modern world of movie tie-in cereals. Seems like every movie and character under the sun has their own cereal now, and with a new Minions movie on the horizon, we've got another branded cereal to review today: Minions Vanilla Vibe cereal.

You know, sometimes I'm shocked that the Minions' popularity has overshadowed their source materiel to such a degree. I mean, can you imagine if when Mario released, they dropped all the characters to focus on the Goombas? I mean, I get they're cute and all, but man...

...a lesson to all creators of villain minions: Keep the cuteness factor under control :P

But yeah, Minions cereal. While not the first cereal tie in for Minions/Despicable Me, this particular cereal is for their upcoming second film. And, surprisingly, it's not banana flavored in any regard!

What it is, though, is colored like the Minions themselves. With yellow and teal cereal pieces respectively representing their body color and regular choice of overalls, and white marshmallows for their goggles and/or big ol' eyes. So, in a way, you're eating Minions. Not very appetizing, to say the least ^_^;

Though, does that mean that Minions are vanilla flavored? Is that confirmed in-universe? Do people eat these little guys?!

You guys will have to let me know; I'm not too well-versed in my Minions lore XP

Weird trains of thought aside, how is this latest tie-in cereal compared to the others we've reviewed? Well, at the very least, we can probably assume it's not quite Funko levels. But as for specifics, you can find out what Faith and I thought right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn-XCOcOwO0&feature=youtu.be

Now for the second cereal of the week. And in this case, we have a little break from the world of brandnames and sponsorships. Instead, we're looking at an all-new variation of an old classic: Lucky Charms, with Honey Clovers!

I'll admit one thing right off the bat: Even though a lot of people dislike the non-marshmallow pieces in regular Lucky Charms, I personally find their oat-y "blandness" a good contrast to the sweetness of the marshmallows. For a similar reason, I find stuff like Frosted Flakes with Marshmallows doesn't work, because it's just one variety of sweetness mixed with another. With regular Lucky Charms, there's a different flavor to counteract the marshmallows, which makes having a bowl to start your morning a pleasant experience.

So, the idea of Honey Clovers - or, the regular pieces, but now honey-flavored - seemed a bit odd to me. It seemed like the iconic flavor dynamic of Lucky Charms was being thrown completely out of wack, and would just leave me with overpowering sweetness. Especially the fact that it was honey flavored was a major red flag for me, as I'm not a big fan of that flavor in cereal to begin with.

But, nevertheless, this was at least a new flavor that General Mills specifically designed to be served with marshmallows, as opposed to just throwing marshmallows into a random, unrelated cereal. And though I may not mind the regular pieces, I know that many people wish they had a bit more flavor. So how does this new variety stack up to the original? Alright, that's it for this week! Gotta say, it feels good to be back on a regular schedule ^_^

Now, before I go, I just wanted to tell you all to stick around in the upcoming weeks; we've got some very unique episodes coming your way shortly, and this blog will play an important roll in them! Don't forget that you can leave comments on these posts, and I'll respond within 24 hours :)
